Tesco said its adjusted operating profit rose 6.5 per cent to £1.78 billion for the 26 weeks to 29 August, a gain it attributed to its omni‑channel operations. Group like‑for‑like sales increased 1.0 per cent, with the UK market up 1.5 per cent and food sales jumping 2.4 per cent. On the back of the performance, the retailer lifted its full‑year adjusted operating profit guidance to a range of £3.15 billion to £3.3 billion, up from the prior £3.0 billion to £3.3 billion range. Ecommerce sales surged 8 per cent in the half, while its quick‑commerce service Whoosh recorded a 37 per cent sales increase and is on track to generate more than £500 million in sales for the full year. In July, Tesco announced a launch on Uber Eats with a later expansion to Deliveroo. Tesco Media also grew strongly, drawing new advertisers and delivering enhanced analytics and automation through an upgraded self‑service platform. Chief executive Ken Murphy said the company’s digital channels are important growth drivers.
